A GUIDE FOR PARENTS

Counselling preparation for parents: choosing a consultant

Good study abroad counselling gives your family clear information, room to ask questions and practical next steps. Use this parent guide to compare the support offered and keep your child involved in every decision.

1. Start with the student

Ask how the suggested courses fit your child’s qualifications, interests and goals. Compare the exact course, campus, teaching mode, modules and entry requirements. Ask why each option belongs on the shortlist.

2. Understand costs and support

Ask which tasks the counsellor will help with and which payments go to outside providers. Keep tuition, living costs and other expenses separate. Ask about payment stages and written refund terms before paying a provider.

3. Keep a clear application record

Agree who handles each task and how updates will be shared. Ask to review application details before submission, keep copies of offers and receipts, and involve your child in checking that the information is accurate.

Questions to bring to your family counselling conversation

  • Why do these courses suit my child, and what alternatives should we compare?
  • Which requirements are confirmed, and what still needs checking?
  • What are the application, deposit and other course-specific dates?
  • Which documents are needed, how should we share them securely and when are originals required?
  • Who will update us, through which contact channel and what is our next action?
  • What support is available after an offer and before departure?

Keep your own copies of documents and correspondence. Ask for an explanation of any unclear instruction or payment request. Admission, scholarships, loans and visas depend on the relevant decision-maker; counselling cannot guarantee an outcome.

Plan the first conversation together

For study abroad counselling in Guntur, bring your child’s academic overview, course interests, intended intake and family budget outline. You can use our downloadable document checklist and UK course-comparison guide to prepare.

CLEAR SERVICE COSTS

Our guidance is free. Plan provider payments separately.

Free Masters Visa support

There is no Masters Visa service charge for counselling, application support, scholarship guidance, education-loan support, IELTS/PTE/TOEFL coaching, interview preparation or pre-departure guidance.

Payments to providers

University application fees, deposits and tuition are paid to the university or its designated payment provider. Exam registration, visa and lender fees, where applicable, are paid to the respective providers.

Other study expenses

Allow for accommodation, travel, insurance and day-to-day living costs. These are part of your study budget. Ask the relevant provider for the amount, payment method and terms before committing.

Before making a payment

  • Identify the provider, purpose, amount and currency.
  • Check the official payment instructions and payee details.
  • Read the applicable cancellation and refund terms.
  • Confirm whether the payment is a deposit credited towards tuition or a separate charge.
  • Keep the invoice, receipt and written confirmation.

A scholarship or loan being discussed is not confirmed funding. Record it as pending until you have the provider’s written decision. Ask our team to explain any unclear payment request during your study abroad counselling conversation.

A FAMILY BUDGETING GUIDE

Build a study budget your family can follow.

Prepare a whole-course budget alongside your study abroad counselling discussion. Record each expense in the provider’s currency, then add a home-currency estimate using your chosen exchange rate. Keep the original amounts visible so you can update the estimate.

1. List the full cost

Include tuition for every year, living costs for the planned duration, accommodation deposits, travel, insurance and applicable exam, visa and lender fees. Add a separate family-chosen contingency allowance.

2. Separate funding by status

List available family funds, confirmed scholarships and approved finance separately from pending applications. Identify any conditions on using the funds. Record an unverified cost as “Not yet confirmed”.

3. Match funds to payments

For each payment, record its due date, amount, payer and funding source. Check when approved loan funds can be released. Keep the university deposit within the tuition total when it is credited towards tuition.

A simple family budget record

  • Course: university, exact course, campus, duration and destination.
  • Costs: item, currency, provider amount, home-currency estimate and payment stage.
  • Funding: source, confirmed amount, conditions and when it becomes available.
  • Remaining need: planned total cost minus confirmed funding allocated to it.
  • Cash-flow gap: payments due before the allocated funds are available.
  • Next action: what needs checking, who will check it and the next follow-up.

Do not count expected part-time earnings or an unawarded scholarship as available funds. A planning budget also does not replace any separate financial-evidence requirements for your application.

Bring the gaps to your counselling conversation

Parents and students can review the figures together, note unanswered questions and compare course options on the same basis. For a UK study plan, use our UK cost guide and printable UK budget worksheet (PDF). Discuss lender questions through our education-loan guidance.

FREE ENGLISH TEST COACHING

Prepare for IELTS, PTE or TOEFL with our team.

Our study abroad counselling includes guidance on free IELTS, PTE and TOEFL coaching as part of your preparation. Share your intended course, any English results you already have and the areas you want to practise.

Choose the right test

Start with your chosen course’s accepted English evidence and required scores. Our counsellors can help you organise the requirements before you book an exam.

Discuss your preparation

Tell us which test you are considering and whether you have taken it before. Ask about class format, available sessions and the next steps to join.

Connect practice to your plan

Bring your application requirements and intended intake to the conversation. Agree the preparation tasks and how they fit alongside your university applications.

What to ask before joining

  • Which test should I prepare for based on my shortlisted courses?
  • What are the class format, session times and joining arrangements?
  • What should I prepare before the first session?
  • How can I discuss the skills I need to practise?

Our coaching is free. Exam booking fees are paid to the test provider.

Leave your family counselling session with a shared action record

A useful counselling session ends with more than a list of universities. The student and family should know what was agreed, what still needs an answer and what happens next. Before leaving your Guntur appointment, turn your notes into a short shared record.

Give the student a clear voice

Ask the student to explain the subject they want to study, their questions and which options they want to compare. Parents can add practical concerns about preparation and the family plan. Keep both sets of questions together so an unanswered concern is not lost.

Write an action, not a vague reminder

“Look at universities” is difficult to finish. “Compare the compulsory modules on these two course pages and list three questions” has a clear result. Keep actions small enough that the person responsible knows when each is complete. If an answer depends on a university or provider, record that dependency rather than promising a result on their behalf.

Keep a decision history

When your preference changes, add a brief note explaining why and save the relevant course link or written answer. This helps the next conversation start with the current position without reconstructing earlier decisions from several message threads.

Agree the next review

Identify the most important unanswered question and what information to bring next time. Use your own contact details when requesting an appointment, select a preferred time in India Standard Time and wait for the Guntur team to confirm availability.
