Course Planning Guide: Compare Your Study Options

Course planning guide to compare subjects, qualifications, destinations, entry requirements and total study costs.

CHOOSE YOUR NEXT COURSE

Course planning: match postgraduate options to your background.

Start with the subjects you have studied, the work you want to learn to do and the full cost. Use these short guides to prepare a course shortlist, then check the exact programme’s entry requirements.

Course planning after BTech

Compare a subject specialism, a related technical field and a management route against your actual modules, grades, projects and interests. A degree title alone does not establish eligibility: check the programme’s mathematics, programming, engineering or other subject prerequisites.

  1. List the modules, project work and practical skills you can evidence.
  2. Read compulsory modules and assessment methods, not just the course title. Check research, project and dissertation options.
  3. Identify missing prerequisites and ask admissions whether your background meets them before paying an application fee.
  4. Compare course duration, campus, delivery mode, total cost and published career support. A placement option is separate from a guaranteed placement.

For example, ASU’s Computer Science MS lists specific prior mathematics expectations. Use its exact course requirements as a research example; they are not a rule for every computing master’s.

Course planning after BCom or BBA

Build a shortlist around what you want to study in more depth: accounting or finance, marketing, management, international business or an analytical specialism. Check whether the course accepts your degree length and subject background, and whether it expects particular quantitative modules or relevant experience.

  • Compare required modules, electives, dissertation or project work and how learning is assessed.
  • For finance or analytics, check mathematics, statistics and software expectations. For a conversion course, confirm who it is intended for.
  • Where professional recognition matters to your goal, check the relevant body’s current recognition and any separate examinations or experience requirements.
  • Record academic equivalence, English evidence, total costs and unresolved questions for each exact programme.

Use the Manchester MSc Management course page as one course-specific research starting point. Eligibility for another course must be checked separately.

MBA, management or business analytics?

MBA

Check the required professional experience, career progression, admissions tests and leadership evidence. Compare the curriculum with the responsibility you want to prepare for. Some MBAs are designed for experienced professionals; a BBA does not automatically make every MBA the right next step.

Management

Check who the programme is designed for, permitted academic backgrounds and whether it builds broad business knowledge or a specialism. Compare modules and project work with your previous study to avoid unnecessary overlap.

Business analytics

Read the quantitative, programming and statistics prerequisites, technical depth and assessment tasks. A business title can still involve substantial analytical work. Check how you will develop and demonstrate the required skills.

Research examples: Manchester MBA entry requirements and Manchester Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. Compare each exact programme; no salary, job or admission outcome is guaranteed.

Choose IELTS, PTE, TOEFL or another accepted route

First collect the exact course’s accepted evidence, test version, delivery mode, overall and component requirements, validity rules and score-reporting method. Then choose a route that meets every course on your shortlist. Coaching choice and test acceptance are separate decisions.

  • IELTS: check Academic, General Training and UKVI variants against your actual study and visa route. These names are not interchangeable. Compare official IELTS test types.
  • PTE: distinguish PTE Academic from other PTE products and check your institution’s specific requirement. Check Pearson’s acceptance resources.
  • TOEFL: check the current score scale, section requirements and accepted test mode with the institution. ETS does not set a universal pass mark. Understand the official TOEFL score report.
  • Other evidence: a medium-of-instruction letter, previous qualification, university assessment or pre-sessional route applies only when the provider accepts it for your programme and the relevant visa requirements are met.

For UK degree-level study, a Higher Education Provider may assess English itself; this does not create a universal waiver. Check the UK Student English requirement. Ask about free IELTS, PTE and TOEFL coaching; exam booking fees are paid to the test provider.

Prepare an accurate record of study gaps and backlogs

Do not rely on a universal “accepted gap” or backlog number. Universities can assess your qualification, completed and pending subjects, attempts, marks, relevant experience and course fit differently. An admissions decision and a visa decision are separate.

  1. Prepare your complete academic history, including attempts and current results. Do not omit a failed or repeated subject.
  2. Write a clear timeline of study, work, training and other periods. Use authentic evidence where it is requested.
  3. Ask admissions what it requires for the exact course, whether pending results can be considered and what conditions must be met.
  4. Keep the written response with your course record. Mark an unanswered requirement Not yet confirmed.

Sheffield Hallam’s India requirements are a general starting point; its course-specific rules and admissions response determine the relevant academic checks. No blanket backlog or gap acceptance is claimed.

UK · USA · AUSTRALIA

Course planning: compare destinations on the same basis.

A useful comparison starts with real programmes that fit your profile. Compare their content, entry requirements, full duration and confirmed cost after awards. Use the same budget period and a clearly stated exchange rate before comparing home-currency estimates.

United Kingdom

Research: exact course, campus, modules, entry and English requirements.

Budget: GBP tuition and living costs, relevant visa charges and healthcare surcharge.

Make a comparison you can explain

  • Write why each course fits your previous study and goals.
  • Compare the same qualification level and the actual course duration.
  • Record academic and English criteria, extra application evidence and any professional-recognition questions.
  • Compare unpaid costs and confirmed funding; keep pending awards separate.
  • Check location, accommodation, student support and practical family considerations.
  • Keep application, funding, payment, school-document and arrival requirements separate.
  • Mark missing information Not yet confirmed and agree the next action.

Do not choose from a country-wide promise about admission, employment or immigration outcomes. Bring exact course links and the questions you want to resolve; our Guntur counsellors can help structure the comparison.

Compare affordability across your shortlisted courses

Use the same course level and full study period for each option. Keep original GBP, USD, AUD or EUR figures, then use a stated exchange rate for any INR comparison. A low annual tuition figure alone does not show the full cost.

  1. Total tuition, required fees, insurance, living costs, travel and your contingency for each course.
  2. Apply confirmed fee discounts once and subtract costs already paid.
  3. Add refundable deposits still needed as temporary cash requirements.
  4. Subtract only confirmed funds still available for those unpaid costs.
  5. Compare both the remaining gap and when each payment is needed.

Keep unresolved amounts marked Not yet confirmed. Use the Guntur budget planner for each option and retain its summary. Do not rely on an unconfirmed award, loan release or future job to close the gap.

Three practical course planning checks

1. Academic fit

Match your qualifications and subject interests to the exact programme. Record the modules you want to study and ask admissions about any unclear prerequisite.

2. Evidence and timing

List the documents, English evidence and application steps required by each course. Record confirmed deadlines separately from your intended start date.

3. Affordability

Compare the full study period, payment schedule and confirmed funds. Keep pending awards and loan applications separate from available funding.

YOUR OFFER DECISION

Two university offers: make a decision you can explain

Receiving two offers gives you options, but it does not make the choice for you. Before your counselling conversation in Guntur, put both offers beside the exact course pages and write down the information that would change your decision. Use the same questions for each option so that a familiar university name does not decide the comparison by itself.

Start with what each offer actually covers

Record the university, course title, teaching campus, qualification, study mode and intended start. Then copy each outstanding condition into your own checklist. A requirement you have not yet met needs an action and a person responsible for completing it. Keep unanswered questions visible rather than treating an empty box as a positive answer.

Agree your priorities before choosing

Choose three factors that matter most to you, such as subject depth, the teaching location and an affordable overall plan. Explain why each matters. If a family member prefers a different option, compare the evidence behind the preference rather than trying to win the discussion with a ranking number.

Write a short decision note

Finish these sentences: “I prefer this course because…”, “Before accepting, I still need to confirm…”, and “My next action is…”. Keep the note with the offers and your correspondence. Revisit it if a condition, course detail or payment instruction changes.

Bring both course links and the worksheet to free counselling in Guntur. Our team can help organise the comparison and identify questions for the universities. Use the existing UK university and course directories as a starting point, then check the official programme information before making a commitment.
